Consciousness Beyond The Paradigm Shift

Birth of a New ConsciousnessOn the flipside, one can see the world changing. This paradigm shift to a more aesthetic, kinder, gentler, artful, creative, imaginative, simpler way of life for humans. For humans to realize that we are connected to all things, that we are a part of the world and not that we own it (or even that it can be owned). We are learning that it is possible to live in the world among one another and not hide who we truly are. You know, the eventual outcome of something like that, would be no law, no government, no social institutions, no regulation, no social roles, no false differences, actual equality, etc. I am not talking about anarchy; I mean freely living and living free. If humans can survive, that is a possible probability. When a generation will be born with full knowing of the past, with full awareness that they are a star and the universe, with full consciousness, with beauty and light. That humans can live with technology without technology destroying humans. See, I do not think that The Matrix and Terminator are bad films, but I also do not think that they are true depictions of what it could be like with humans and technology. I think those stories are incomplete. I think that there is/will be some like that, but that those will be minor bits (much like certain types of crime nowadays. Crime is all over the news and internet, but overall, crime has declined since the 90s. All crime, including violent crime). I do not believe in Big Brother, but I do think that there are some humans who have different agendas for the future. “Big Brother” is only a gathering of humans who are as susceptible to time as the rest of us, therefore, as susceptible to inevitable tides as we all are.

I think we are not very far from this emergent consciousness, if it isn’t already here in some form as yet unrecognized. I mean, the idea of aliens from another planet is but one scale (or direction). On the flipside, is a terrestrial alien being. Would not an emergent consciousness be like an alien being? And would not it make sense for it to arise from the Global Mind, i.e., the world wide web? All of humanity giving birth to what is known as A.I. (okay, perhaps Morpheus is correct in this one. LOL). Speaking of the Matrix isn’t the question “What is the Matrix?” not unlike the question humans ask, “What is the Meaning of Life?” Or as Alan Watts posits, “What’s Going On Here?”

machine meditation III: a paradigm shiftI mean, for example Watson (remember the supercomputer that could learn, that was tested on Jeopardy). I think one of the mistakes humans make about the mind is that it is like a computer, I do not think so. It is much, MUCH more irrational than a computing machine. The human mind is not logical, it does not compute, it does not calculate like a computer. Perhaps the bicameral mind did, in its black/white off/on kind of thinking, yes (and perhaps there are still those with a bicameral mind among us today), the human mind, as predicate of possessing consciousness, does not think in such a dualistic manner. Everything about the contemporary human mind is nondualistic. It is why it appears so irrational.  It is why it appears contradictory, or paradoxical. The era of black/white, either/or thinking is dying. That is the dark ages. That is the end of creativity and innovation. But there is an abundance of creativity in ways that have not before existed (due to technology). Man is no longer trying to reinvent the wheel; we now have the ability to surpass the wheel. This is how I see technology and human.

Science now studies levitation and teleportation. If that is not an acknowledgement of the abilities of the human mind/energy, then what is? What are called superpowers, are really just normal abilities of energy or thermodynamics or transference or something like that. It is just physics, not at all paranormal, or subnormal, or abnormal, or crazy. It is just that there is still so much garbage in the human mind (as a species) that these abilities cannot become dominant in the DNA. I mean, how do we know that some of the so-called historical “miracles” or “aliens” or “witchcraft” or “black magic” is not really just protrusions of these abilities?

The Hermit’s Divinity

“By and by your attention becomes so intensely focused that you no longer notice the raw knuckles, the cramping thighs, the strain of maintaining nonstop concentration. A trancelike state settles over your efforts; the climb becomes a clear-eyed dream. Hours slide like minutes. The accumulated clutter of day-to-day existence – the lapse of conscience, the unpaid bills, the bungled opportunities, the dust under the couch, the inescapable prison of your genes – all of it is temporarily forgotten, crowded from your thoughts by an overpowering clarity of purpose and by the seriousness of the task at hand.” ~Jon Krakauer, Into The Wild

That is exactly how it is when one removes from little boxes and into the woods. We suppose that might have been Krakauer’s point in including his tale [the above quote] in his book about Chris McCandless’ venture into the wild. That was 1992, nowadays, “The Wild” can be anywhere outside of the mainstream, without earshot of a television screen, going out without cellphone or other electronic device (we notice that nearly everyone we see has his or her ears stuffed with an mp3 player. It is strange really, this desire to disconnect from the environment whatever it may be. Anonymity translated from the screen (i.e., television, cellphone, computer, etc.) to Real Life. Everyone still pipes in their existence from afar, still inside their own world as if they were before a screen. Disconnect. Disconnect. ‘I Do Not See You, Unless You Are Words On My Screen’ is the cry of the new human, the automaton, the biological cyborg. The Hive Mind with perambulation. No Access Denied. It is frightening and existentially disturbing; for what is the evolution of this race of human? The Homo Technicus?). If one is not plugged in, one can be unseen, unnoticed, off the radar, low-tech, non-existent(?). “The World” is now anything real, for Reality TV has transformed Reality into drama. The View is chitchat, Oprah is conversation, the emoticon is feeling, and Google is thought. Google is no longer a number, but the masses’ innumerable infinite. . . stupidity. [Cipolla’s Law] What becomes the idea of The Lowest Denominator? When a system can only be as intelligent as the lowest denominator within that system? Moore’s Law is now the Ultimate God? The one true law? The Absolute?! Is it even possible anymore for an empire to fall thanks to technology? What is the probability of an empire falling that multiplies exponentially and logarithmically? What of that kind of social system? What kind of monster, that system?! Run by algorithm, controlled by data, access denied, and incompatible databases? What sort of Leviathan has been created?

It seems almost ironic, as the world wide web evolves (bringing humans ever“closer” in contact, making it even more easier and simpler to ‘reach out and touch someone,’ the farther and farther humans move away from one another (that is in time and not space)), the ever larger becomes the disconnect, the deeper the chasm. What does this do to consciousness of that race of humans? How does that alter (if at all, although we think most likely and most assuredly) the racial (residual) planetary, generational, and individual DNA of that race? What becomes of that psychic connection? Strange. Just strange, the volume of derangement we have observed in the people about here since moving ‘Into The Wild.’ The longer we are in the woods surrounded by silence in the form of birds, streams, wind, leaves, trees, branches (ah, the fractal of Earth Planet), deer, rodent, insect, arachnid; climate, rain, cold, heat; awareness of the elements, of every subtle change within that environment; constant connection to the Hum of the planet, the sky and universe, the noisier civilization becomes. The more divorced we become from society. . . and this by choice. We consider ourselves fortunate to forgetting the shackles of society; i.e., calendar, clock, alarm bell tolling, boisterous voices, car horns, traffic lights red, yellow, green, obeisance, law, drugs, the clang and clutter, clickety clackety of industry moving on 24 hours a day, florescent buzzing and morning news chatter, office gossip and political scandal, all shrugged from now relaxed, unstressed shoulders. Is this the happiness ever pursued? Is this the Nirvana monks spoke of? Perhaps. Or it is just absence from the purgatory of the civilized zoo, as if privilege were the work of divinity! We should laugh. We have witnessed divinity and it is not delightful as the tongue-twisters and deceivers whisper from their TV pulpit, professors of propriety them all. Divinity is not bestowed, not earned, not forsaken, not bought and sold, and certainly not delegated. Divinity is but the name given a motion, a slice of energy infinitely transforming, intangible, worn by consciousness and begat by awareness. There is no god, therefore any need for amen. Prayer is folly and the Pandora’s Box of the lonely and ignorant, the Homo Technicus. We stand naked before the great glowing screen, unscathed and unbowed. The carnival, though teases our names, cannot attract for we are no moth, are no more and no less; responsive only to the Hum and not drudgery. Free. Wild. We Will to step farther than Thoreau and McCandless for they knew not of lateralus. The trance be wakeful, bequeathed with awareness, this is where this state differs from Krakauer’s description, McCandless’ journey and Thoreau’s philosophy. It is closer to Alan Watts’ idea of the hermit and the nonjoiner, closer to Tyson’s breaking his chains, and Williams’ original freedom.

“But I’ll tell you what hermits realize. If you go off into a far, far forest and get very quiet, you’ll come to understand that you’re connected with everything.” ~Alan Watts

The Spirit Of Chaos

“Take one of those individual threads in the fiber that seems to be so chaotic and go into the constitution of that, and again you will find The Spirit of Chaosfantastic order, you’ll find the most gorgeous designs of molecules.” ~Alan Watts, The Web of Life

Why is it that we think we must depend upon our brains to lead us through life?

It is not the brain that experiences (the brain is more like a recording apparatus) but our minds, our consciousness experiences and perceives and conceives our environment (environment here does not necessarily exclude an urban or suburban environment). Since our minds experience, by what process do we undertake this experimental existence? Intuition. We feel, we sense what surrounds us, because we ARE our environment.

Intuition is that part of us, as conscious beings, that processes those constant changes within our environment, which can be aware of those incalculable factors. What’s more can interpret, assess, and comprehend those factors, like a kind of calculation (albeit, one that does not involve counting). Intuition can do this faster than the mind can think, and even more rapid than logic can compute. Why then should we depend upon the brain and its logic? Why should we use it, rather than or as substitute for intuition? Logic is limited, therefore, finite. More, it is flawed, because it can only compute either/or, it cannot perceive a dynamo of information (i.e., factors and variables) simultaneously, all extending from separate directions, chaotic stillness. Logic, that is to say linear systems, regulates an environment, and in that regulation transforms that environment into a static environment, the reduction of infinity to the finite. Our intuition, on the other hand, embraces chaos and randomness without fear of punishment or failure, because our intuition knows that in chaos there is order. The brain and its logic attempts to order chaos. So, we as intuitive beings choose life and health, imagination, our wild nature, exploration, and experience to be more alive, to evolve. For this, we as intuitive beings are uncontrollable, incorrigible, impossible to regulate, and non-linear. If intuition is the spirit of chaos, then life be the canvas.

Through an intuitive, fully open, wide-eyed, sensual and honest experience of existence, it is possible to transcend hopelessness, pessimism, disbelief, etc. by living in the moment and accepting things as they come. To really enjoy living and look at life as an adventure, we open our hearts, minds, bodies, and spirits to our natural intuitive state of being. In this way, we can enjoy every moment of discovery in the world…and we can become like children on a playground. Now, this does not imply that we possess knowledge, intelligence or wisdom to be absolutely sure about anything, however, it does mean that we are free to change our minds quite often, because the more things we experience, the more our perception changes, and the more we grow and evolve as human beings.

We are not meant to be miserable beings…we are meant to be vibrant, fully open, playful, sensual, universal beings. We are more than we can become, because each of us is a fractal of light…and we are all connected.

“Light, here, means awareness  to be aware of life, of experience as it is at this moment, without any judgement or ideas about it. In other words, you have to see and feel what you are experiencing as it is. And not as it is named. This very simple “opening of the eyes” brings about the most extraordinary transformation of understanding and living, and shows that many of our most baffling problems are pure illusion.” ~Alan Watts

We All Live Downstream

“It’s like you took a bottle of ink and you threw it at a wall. Smash! And all that ink spread. And in the middle, it’s dense, isn’t it? And as it gets out on the edge, the little droplets get finer and finer and make more complicated patterns, see?”

Colored Rocks“There was a big bang at the beginning of things and it spread. And you and I, sitting here in this room, as complicated human beings, are way, way out on the fringe of that bang.”

Carved Head“We are the complicated little patterns on the end of it. Very interesting.”

Magic Mushroom“But so we define ourselves as being only that. If you think that you are only inside your skin, you define yourself as one very complicated little curlique, way out on the edge of that explosion. Way out in space, and way out in time.”

Enchanted Forest“Billions of years ago, you were a big bang, but now you’re a complicated human being.”

Lily“And then we cut ourselves off, and don’t feel that we’re still the big bang. But you are.”

Marshland“Depends how you define yourself. You are actually–if this is the way things started, if there was a big bang in the beginning– you’re not something that’s a result of the big bang. You’re not something that is a sort of puppet on the end of the process.”

Wizard's Cap“You are the big bang, the original force of the universe, coming on as whoever you are.”

Life Downstream“When I meet you, I see not just what you define yourself as–Mr so-and- so, Ms so-and-so, Mrs so-and-so–I see every one of you as the primordial energy of the universe coming on at me in this particular way.”

We All Live Downstream“I know I’m that, too.  But we’ve learned to define ourselves as separate from it. “

The Art Of Living

“The art of living… is neither careless drifting on the one hand nor fearful clinging to the past on the other. It consists in being sensitive to each moment, in regarding it as utterly new and unique, in having the mind open and wholly receptive.”

Bee to Flower Pollination“This is the real secret of life — to be completely engaged with what you are doing in the here and now. And instead of calling it work, realize it is play.”

Dandelion Macro“Through our eyes, the universe is perceiving itself. Through our ears, the universe is listening to its harmonies. We are the witnesses through which the universe becomes conscious of its glory, of its magnificence.”

Bullfrogs Mating“To have faith is to trust yourself to the water. When you swim you don’t grab hold of the water, because if you do you will sink and drown. Instead you relax, and float.”

Bright Yellow Flower“Try to imagine what it will be like to go to sleep and never wake up… now try to imagine what it was like to wake up having never gone to sleep.”

Pink Flowers“The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.”

Bright Yellow Flower “The meaning of life is just to be alive. It is so plain and so obvious and so simple. And yet, everybody rushes around in a great panic as if it were necessary to achieve something beyond themselves.”

“Life is like music for its own sake. We are living in an eternal now, and when we listen to music we are not listening to the past, we are not listening to the future, we are listening to an expanded present.”
